What's included?

The Leveled Reading Assessment includes books created to identify each student’s reading levels. The beautiful illustrations and photographs, familiar characters, and carefully crafted stories will motivate and engage students, creating a positive assessment experience.

The books were developed by Michèle Dufresne, author of many of the most favorite books at Pioneer Valley Books. Each book was written, tested, and revised to ensure the two books at each level get accurate results, aligning with each other and the text level. The books were piloted by experienced literacy teachers working with a diverse population of students.

Who is it for?

The Leveled Reading Assessment was specifically created to help teachers easily identify students’ instructional and independent reading levels, and to do that with ease, speed, and affordability. Using these kits two to three times during the school year, teachers can:

  • accurately assess students progress
  • assess need for intervention
  • make informed decisions on students’ readiness to advance to more challenging reading and writing activities
  • determine a student’s reading levels and observe strategic reading behaviors, fluency, comprehension, and writing skills
  • easily and accurately assess student reading levels within a defined benchmark system
